(Consent applies to more than just sex, people!)
I’ve been seeing some things that concern me in the online spiritual community. It isn’t new, and I don’t search for it so I’m sure it happens more than I care to know.
I’m talking about people advertising or requesting services for energy work that clearly involves someone who is unaware of the entire thing. “Spells” are where I see this happening most often, but the label does not matter. You can call it a “spell” or any other name energy work goes by: prayer, healing, reiki, clearing, psychic reading, etc. There are ethical and unethical ways to approach energy work.
Fear-mongering isn’t going to be my approach, here. I do believe that there are consequences and karma and such; that every action causes a reaction. But my point is more simple than that. Doing what’s right just because you know you should.
In my humble opinion, it’s very easy to see that trying to manipulate energy with the intent to cause harm (revenge), is wrong. Yet, somehow, I’m seeing people looking to do this and it grosses me out. However, those people KNOW they’re trying to cause harm, so I can’t really help there.
Where I hope I can be of service is in the grey areas. Sometimes we think we are doing good for a person and maybe we aren’t. We don’t always know if the current situation we perceive as “bad” is actually serving a higher purpose. We should be asking our guidance if doing energy work is the most beneficial approach. If so, what kind of energy work is most beneficial in each situation? As an example, sometimes sending peace is more beneficial than intending to heal.
So, I ask my higher guidance on what to provide. I find that adding “fine print” to that kind of work is the solution for me.
Example: You want to send positive energy (healing, protection), or clear negative energy (illness, attachments) from a person, place, or pet. Your heart is truly in the right place, and it doesn’t matter if it’s reiki, a spell, or another mode of energy work.
Here’s how I proceed:
Example: You want to send positive energy (healing, protection), or clear negative energy (illness, attachments) from a person, place, or pet. Your heart is truly in the right place, and it doesn’t matter if it’s reiki, a spell, or another mode of energy work.
First: If there is ANY question of safety, I ask my higher guidance if I have approval to proceed with this work.
If “yes”, proceed.
Now, the “fine print”:
“I intend that this work only take effect if the higher-self of the person/place/pet approves it. If it can not be implemented as intended, please send this energy where it can serve the highest good.”
Then I can begin the energy work, and I know that my efforts won’t be wasted. The healing will go where it can be of best use.
*I use the fine print even if I have verbal consent from a person.
You may have noticed that last sentence implies there are times when I send healing to someone who didn’t explicitly consent. Buildings and animals can’t give explicit verbal consent.
If I am sending light to a private space that isn’t mine, it is normally a request: a client asks me to assess and possibly clear unhelpful energy from her home. No problem, I have permission from the person it would affect.
It’s rare, but if I don’t have permission, and feel called to do the work, I intend that the energy be pure and positive, but neutral as far as ownership. As an example, I had very toxic neighbors renting next to me, and they were become more and more violent. I sent peace and love to our whole building and wouldn’t you know it, they moved out! Notice I didn’t energetically claim that space as mine, and I didn’t touch the energy of the people at all.
As for animals, I have learned not to direct energy at them but, rather, to a bubble near them. They can receive what feels good and leave the flow if they choose. When I call in reiki at home, my cat will almost always sit to my side, out of the direct flow, but with one foot touching me, haha! Animals are wise and will take what they want from the experience.
Truly, I almost never do energy work that was not requested… But, as we know, not everyone believes the same way. So, if I don’t feel comfortable asking permission, but I feel very strongly called to do it, I will send general positivity for their higher-self to utilize as they see fit. I don’t get to have an expectation on the outcome. Sometimes the big picture is more important. Sometimes things we don’t enjoy serve a higher purpose.
I should add that when I feel called to work anonymously, I ask my higher-self whether I am being called to do it by Spirit, or if it’s just that my 3D ego wants to do it. Do we want to send healing to your Twin Flame or soulmate so they’ll come back to us faster? Yeah, that’s ego! If it’s ego, I have to drop it. Luckily for me, I almost never feel the urge to do anonymous work, so I don’t have to go through this process often. As you practice and learn to be honest with yourself, it gets easier to discern.
Let’s talk about psychic readings:
Sometimes readings involve acknowledging a 3rd person, usually a partner or ex-partner of the client. I do my best to focus on the ways this connection has impacted my client. I am not doing a reading on the 3rd party’s personal information. Moreover, I don’t attempt to open akashic records without permission, period.
I might ask:
-What does my client need to know about this connection?
-What is the purpose of this connection/separation?
-What is the most likely outcome if client… (stays/leaves/reaches out)?
-What is the likely trajectory of the current energy of this connection?
-What next step would be beneficial for client’s highest journey?
(understand you are only reading the current energy and people can change course)
I would avoid asking:
-Who is this 3rd person dating now?
-What happened to this 3rd person to make them this way?
These questions are too intrusive on 3rd person’s privacy.
This is an imperfect list, but what I am trying to emphasize is that how you word things is very important.
I’m not a perfect person and I am forever learning. We all make mistakes, but we can choose to admit them (even if only to ourselves) and do better moving forward. While I usually have a good moral compass, I learned these skills from my mentors. I have had readings, myself, where I hoped to get some insider info on someone. My mentors, without fail, gently guide me back to focusing on my own highest journey. That is what I hope to provide for my clients.
Here’s to doing good work! Cheers!
